In this guide, we explain what Incoterms 2020 are, what they are used for, and how to choose the right one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What Are Incoterms?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) are a set of rules published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) that define the obligations, costs, and risks between the buyer and seller in an international sale of goods. They are updated periodically; the current version is Incoterms 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Are They Used For?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They help both parties clearly understand where their responsibilities begin and end: who arranges and pays for transportation, who is responsible for insurance, at what point the risk transfers from the seller to the buyer, and who handles customs procedures.\n\nChoosing the right Incoterm helps prevent misunderstandings, unexpected costs, and disputes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alltranscargogroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/INSERTOS-WEB_INSERTO-1-2.jpg\"><strong>The 11 Incoterms 2020<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They are divided into two groups according to the mode of transport:<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 75%;\"><strong>For Any Mode of Transport<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>EXW \u2013 Ex Works<\/li>\n<li>FCA \u2013 Free Carrier<\/li>\n<li>CPT \u2013 Carriage Paid To<\/li>\n<li>CIP \u2013 Carriage and Insurance Paid To<\/li>\n<li>DAP \u2013 Delivered at Place<\/li>\n<li>DPU \u2013 Delivered at Place Unloaded<\/li>\n<li>DDP \u2013 Delivered Duty Paid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 75%;\"><strong>Only for Sea and Inland Waterway Transport<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>FAS \u2013 Free Alongside Ship<\/li>\n<li>FOB \u2013 Free On Board<\/li>\n<li>CFR \u2013 Cost and Freight<\/li>\n<li>CIF \u2013 Cost, Insurance and Freight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Most Commonly Used and How to Choose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In practice, some of the most frequently used Incoterms are FOB and CIF for sea freight, and EXW and DDP for any mode of transport.\n\nThe right choice depends on how much control and responsibility you want to assume. With EXW, the buyer takes on most responsibilities from the seller\u2019s factory.
